The understated smell of coffee wafts through the apartment, the table is already set. I have just fetched the oven-fresh Danishes we ordered from the "Thomal" from the reception desk. There's nothing better than a lavish breakfast enjoyed at your leisure on a vacation morning. With views of the Lungau mountains - preferably, still sporting your pajamas - after all, it's just us ;-)

FLEXIBLE AND PRIVATE: Apartment Holidays  

We prefer to spend our holidays independently, not bound by tight schedules or mealtimes. Away from any crowded dining rooms, long lines at the buffet. A holiday just for us. We enjoy lunch on the mountain or at a hut along the way. The regional specialties and hearty snacks we eat there taste twice as good in combination with the amazing scenery. It also means we can take a little longer if we prefer. The kitchen in our modern holiday apartment is fully equipped. With everything you could ask for, including toaster, coffeemaker, cereal bowls, plenty of crockery as well as pots and pans, and wineglasses for the occasional drop of a fine vintage. Our 4* #holidayhome in Lungau definitely is a home-away-from-home.And what about in the evening, if we aren’t in the mood to cook for ourselves? The selection of good restaurants and traditional eateries close to our apartment in Mariapfarr has to be seen to be believed. Good things are often right at your fingertips. Which definitely applies at Carpe Solem Mariapfarr in Lungau: Thomal - Der Wirt seit 1217, for example, is located right here at the resort.

Good things are so often right there in front of your eyes. Something that Stefan Buhk and Axel Hofmann-Buhk are convinced of. That’s why these two full-blooded restaurateurs and hosts in Thomal are consciously committed to regionality. Only foods of the very highest (organic) quality ever makes it into their pans or onto their plates. This includes organic meat from Lungaugold and dairy products from Minimolk.

Stefan and Axel are renowned for their passion, innovation and respect – for ingredients, produces, suppliers and customers. Restaurant critics have long since become aware of this duo, with countless awards plastering the career paths of this Punk-loving kitchen chef and pierced restaurant manager. Highlights include restaurant guides Meyers Guide, Gault Millau and Wirtshausführer (in which they were named “Newcomers of the Year”). Axel and Stefan took over the Thomal in January 2021. Since spring of this year, their inn has also been a partner of Green Chefs and the “AMA Genussregion”.

Stefan’s creations (“anything but mediocre”) can also be enjoyed in your apartment at Carpe Solem Mariapfarr: everything on their menu is also available as take-away. Or have their delicious morsels prepared for you at the "Thomal" itself. “Wurzelfleisch 2.0”, for example, is culinary poetry: the pork loin roast with truffled potato purée, root vegetables and horseradish foam. It’s impossible to imagine your mouth isn’t already watering at the prospect … In combination with a good glass of wine and outstanding service – in short: pure enjoyment! And all of that practically right outside your front door, at Carpe Solem Mariapfarr.

As you can see, your culinary enjoyment won’t fall short during your self-catering holiday with us. Mama’s cooking, fine dining or an inn with deep traditional roots. Whatever you are in the mood for.


And since we are on the subject of good taste: We have a great recommendation for foodies - the Via Culinaria. The 9 culinary pathways lead through all of Salzburger Land. So, are you a gourmet, an avowed carnivore or a cheese lover? Or have a sweet tooth, a “thing” for fish, or a palate anxious to taste a good beer or fine schnapps? In Lungau, close to our 4* Appartementresort Carpe Solem Mariapfarr, in this regard you will discover some true treasures. For example, at the Stub´n in Mariapfarr, the Brunnerwirt, the toque-awarded Mesnerhaus as well as Trausners Genuss Werkstatt in Mauterndorf - to name but a few.


Best ingredients for a snack in your apartment or tasty holiday souvenirs can be found at “Kemmt´s eina Spezialitätenladen” in Tamsweg. There, amongst other things, you will find cured meats courtesy of the “Bacon King 2018”, from the Greilhof organic farm in Tamsweg, and cheese specialties from the Hiasnhof in Göriach. Günther Naynar of the Hiasnhof is a pioneer in the Slow Food movement and conjures up some true cheese delicacies made from cow and goat milk. He is convinced that foods taste best where they were produced. But don’t just take our word for it – taste what he means for yourself!

For our part, we are already looking forward to the start of our next vacation day in Lungau. Tomorrow, with fresh organic eggs and freshly baked rolls ordered from Alex and Stefan at the "Thomal". And of course, with a view of the mountains...
