Modern Apartments and Chalet at Erzberg Alpin Resort

The spacious Erzberg Alpin Resort – with its broad green areas and currently 100 apartments for 2 to 8 people along with the chalet – is practically a village unto itself – located in the Münichtal section of Eisenerz. The pyramid-shaped Erzberg and its terraces as well as your personal “Hauly experience” are essentially just a stone’s throw away. Admission to VITALBAD Eisenerz is likewise included free of charge.

Fully equipped apartments

The Erzberg Alpin Resort currently comprises 100 apartments in various categories and the chalet (ideal for group travel). The comfortably appointed apartments range in areas between 35 and 87 m² accommodating from 2 to 8 people, while the chalet can host as many as 27 guests. From the balcony of each apartment, you can enjoy the mountain view. Some apartments are equipped with an infrared sauna or whirlpool tub.

A very special highlight for group travellers of every kind is undoubtedly our modern chalet: 270 m² living space, 8 bedrooms, 40 m² terrace, spacious living area with kitchen and separate “dining hall”, a wellness area with Finnish sauna as well as 3 multi-function living rooms and lounges are available for the enjoyment of your group, club, school class or team.

Our amenities include Wi-Fi in all apartments and parking areas. All kitchens in the apartments of the Erzberg Alpin Resort are fully equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, freezer, dishwasher, plenty of cutlery and crockery, kitchen utensils, coffeemaker and toaster.

Unforgettable holidays on and around the Erzberg

Approximately 3 km from the town center of Eisenerz, roughly 25 km from Leoben, you will discover Eisenerz Alpin Resort. For many people, the red Erzberg, a striking landscape feature along with the Reichenstein, Wildfeld, Kaiserschild and Pfaffenstein, is best known for its TOP sporting events: Every year (since 1994), it hosts the legendary Redbull Erzberg Rodeo in May or June – one of the world’s toughest Enduro motorcycle races, as it does the Erzberg Lauf, drawing a field of around 1500 runners. Life in this community in the heart of the Eisenerz Alps was shaped by mining for centuries, with this rich history still tangible and ubiquitous for visitors today. Winter holidays on the Erzberg

Your skiing holiday in Styria

Especially for families, beginners and returning skiers, the ski areas of Hochsteiermark close to Eisenerz are ideal. The Präbichl, with its 20 km of beautifully groomed pistes, a fun slope and FIS training hill, lies just 13 km from your holiday resort on the Erzberg. Here, deep-snow fans also find their own corner of heaven, while the youngsters will be able to venture deep into Schlumperwald forest…

Snowshoeing, ski touring and winter hiking

Ski touring is a sport that is becoming more and more popular. If you are looking for challenging climbs and exhilarating descents through virgin countryside, we highly recommend the Eisenerz area of Ramsau or a visit to the nearby Gesäuse. Following marked winter hiking paths and snowshoeing tours, you will be able to discover our holiday region at its most beautiful – here and there, even coming across the tracks of wild animals in the fresh snow. Until well into springtime, cross-country skiers can glide along the trails of the Eisenerzer Ramsau at the foot of the Kaiserschild. This is also where the Styrian training center for Nordic winter sports was established – a great opportunity for you to experience first-hand the stars of the Nordic winter sports scene training hard. With the Hochsteirische Guest Card, which you automatically receive when you check in, use of the trails is discounted.

Sledding and ice-skating

Great fun for the whole family: zipping down one of the sliding hills in the region. On the Präbichl, you will discover a 1 km-long sled run with floodlighting, while the sled run in the Eisenerz area of Ramsau is almost 2 km in length. If skating is more your thing, show off your skills on the ice rink in Eisenerz or - if temperatures allow – even on the frozen waters of the Leopoldsteiner See.

Hiking and Mountaineering

Your opportunities for hiking and mountaineering are essentially right outside your front door and more diverse than you could possibly imagine. If you are in the mood for vertical challenges and breathtaking views during your mountain holiday, the fixed-cable climbs of the Kaiser Franz Joseph Steig and Eisenerzer Klettersteig on the Pfaffenstein are just two of the via ferratas that immediately come to mind. The Leopoldsteiner See is within 2 minutes’ walking distance of, while a walk around this emerald-green mountain lake takes roughly 1 ½ hours (ca. 4 km). The outstanding network of hiking trails close to Eisenerz promises enjoyable hikes and fascinating mountain tours for laid-back hikers, families as well as intrepid alpinists.

In summer, the Gesäuse is only 25 minutes away by car: Over 500 km of marked hiking paths and alpine trails, an extraordinary number of mountain huts as well as the rivers Enns and Salza, which promise unforgettable wild-water experiences, await you there inside the National Park.

Erzberg Adventure

The Erzberg is the biggest open-cast mining area for iron ore in Central Europe. It has unforgettable experiences in store for adventurers and fans of giant vehicles not far from our apartment resort: On a so-called Hauly – a remodeled 860 hp dump truck with viewing platform –-you will be chauffeured through the active mine and might even have the opportunity to witness a blasting (Thursdays).

Erzberg Rodeo: Every May or June for more than 25 years, things really heat up – and get really loud – when 1500 Enduro riders from around the world take on the challenge of the Erzberg. The Erzberg Rodeo is a red-letter day on the calendar of every off-road fan, with competitors pushing themselves to their absolute limits on all 4 days.

Recreation

If, after an adventure-packed vacation day in Eisenerz, you are craving refreshment, you might well decide to immerse yourself in cool, refreshing water: perhaps in the Leopoldsteiner See, at Asia Spa Leoben or Vitalbad Eisenerz (where admission is free for our guests). From the Präbichl, you also have a great opportunity to look down on the Hochsteiermark holiday region from on high in the sky during an exhilarating tandem paragliding flight.

Erzberg Hauly tours

A Hauly ride on the Erzberg should definitely be right at the top of your holiday to-do list: During a tour lasting approximately one hour, you will be taken on a ride atop an enormous remodeled dump truck through the active opencast mine and will be able to watch the miners, heavy trucks and earthmovers hard at work. Things also get very loud when around 25,000 tons of rock are dynamited out: Every Thursday, you have an opportunity to witness a dramatic blasting live. The Erzberg is one of the TOP 5 excursion destinations in Styria and is also the venue for legendary sporting events such as the Red Bull Erzberg Rodeo.

Red Bull Ring Spielberg

Project Spielberg – home to the legendary Red Bull Ring – is less than one hour’s drive from our apartment resort. An absolute must for Formula One and Moto GP fans – and an unforgettable experience for everyone. If you would like to stand on the same podium in Spielberg as Nico Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton, you should definitely join one of the popular guided tours of the Red Bull Ring and gain fascinating insights into the world of motor racing. A real adrenaline kick is guaranteed when you take a ride in the KTM X-Bow or on the KTM Moto2, while off-road fans begin their tour in a Land Rover Defender or a buggy. The spectrum of (motorized) experiences is enormous – and I warmly recommend a visit to the Spielberg for everyone, not just fans of motorsports…

Leopoldsteinersee

The Leopoldsteinersee lies just 2 km from our Erzberg Alpin Resort. It can easily be reached on foot in about half an hour and is a popular destination for our guests, both summer and winter. Reflected in the clear-as-glass turquoise water of the lake are the rock faces of the surrounding mountains – including the Hochblaser, which is also the site of the famous Kaiser Franz Josef via ferrata. With a difficulty rating of C/D, the starting point for this fixed-cable climb is the Leopoldsteinersee car park. This is also where you will find the Seestüberl, a great place for a refreshment break after a leisurely walk around the lake – which takes roughly 1 ½ hours – to enjoy freshly caught lake trout, for example, or, on hot days, pancake topped with ice cream.

Dee feedings

Deer feedings in nearby Gesäuse National Park are a very special experience in winter. Accompanied by a professional gamekeeper, you will hike through the snow to an observation hut in the forest. From there, you have the opportunity to watch these majestic animals feeding close-up. If you ask, the gamekeeper will be happy to lend you binoculars so you don’t miss a thing ;) This is a truly impressive natural spectacle – at least as impressive as the winter landscapes in which it takes place.

Asia Spa Leoben

Are you longing for relaxation after a day full of adventures in Styria? In that case, it’s definitely time to immerse yourself in soothingly warm water – which happens to be in ample supply at Asia Spa Leoben. A 30-minute drive from your apartment will bring you to the pools and saunas of this SPA resort. You are certain to work up a healthy sweat in the saunas, where they also conduct creative infusions. My tip for the ladies: Wednesdays are “Ladies only” in the Erzberg Stollen, one of the saunas at the Asia Spa. Your children won’t get bored either: (not just) the youngsters are sure to be thrilled by the turbo slide, giant slide and climbing wall, while the “Xusus Bamboo Bath” gives the whole family a chance to sweat together.

Der wilde Berg

If you are looking for an exciting excursion destination for the whole family, you should definitely pay a visit to this “wild mountain” in Mautern: You will ride the gondola up to where the wild animals roam. Around 300 alpine animals live on this mountain, while you can also look forward to a bird-of-prey show, a children’s farm with petting zoo, a play park – and when you’re done, ride mountain carts back down to the valley. Believe us when we say, your kids will be sharing stories about their visit to this Styrian wildlife park for a long time to come! Mautern is approximately a 30-minute drive from Erzberg Alpin Resort, while you will also benefit from a 10% discount with your Hochsteirische Guest Card.

Feedback from our guests

The rooms are spacious and clean. Location is great for families who like outdoor activities We tried to book via booking. It is only written "pets are allowed and charges may apply". We thought it would not cost much so went ahead with the booking. only after the booking confirmation we got to know that how much we need to pay for the pet, plus extra city tax. That makes the overall price almost 30% more than the "total costs" during the booking process. The owner said booking does not allow them to publish cost details for pets. Not sure who shall be responsible for this dispute. But it was very unpleasant experience. We cannot cancel the booking after knowing the true price

Nice apartments suitable for families with kids, but also for group of friends. Our rooms were clean, bathroom was also clean. Kitchen has all necessary equipment. There is also coffee machine but no coffee. Wifi signal was quite poor in some rooms. I missed the soap for body. They give you washing set for dishes, they give you towels and toilet paper but noooo soap would be too much. That's strange, I don't get it. Staff at the reception was very friendly. Parking available right in front of the apartmens.

The place is so amazing! Rooms are clean and well equiped, all payments are reasonable and the mountains near Resort are just lovely! But the lady, who is working at the local bar is the nicest person we met in the whole Austria. She has smile brighter than the sun. If she has salary paid by Erzberg Alpin Resort - she should get some kind of bonus payment 🙂
