ALPS RESIDENCE GOES GLAMPING IN CARINTHIA - AUSTRIA

Have you ever dreamed about spending a night in a treehouse or luxury tent? Or in a glamorous chalet, though with a camping atmosphere? In that case, we have good news for you: ALPS goes Glamping! In winter 2021, Glamping Village Kötschach will be opened in Gailtal, Carinthia. At our brand-new Glamping Resort in Austria, you will be able to spend your summer or winter holidays in and with nature, on the forest’s edge in a magically scenic setting. The “Vorhegg”, a small Carinthian family ski area, is located right next to Glamping Village Kötschach.

Included for our guests in addition to abundant nature, open spaces and creature comforts: daily admission to the Aquarena in Kötschach, a “water and wellness oasis” right next to our Glamping Resort. In other words, a camping vacation with more than a hint of luxury … Glamourous camping with ALPS Residence.

Glamping in Gailtal, Carinthia, close to the Nassfeld

Glamping Village Kötschach is located on the edge of the forest and in an idyllic hillside setting in the Carinthian market town of Kötschach. Kötschach-Mauthen, at 700 meters above sea level, is nestled between the Gailtal and Carnic Alps, at the entrance to Lesachtal and on the border with Italy (via the Plöcken Pass). Lesachtal is famous as the “most pristine valley in Europe”.

At our Glamping Village Kötschach, you can choose between 5 accommodation categories, with options that range from a Safari Family Tent (only bookable in summer) to a comfortable treehouse or a glamping chalet.

  • Safari Comfort luxury tent: 31 m² for up to 4 people, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom (summer only)
  • Safari Family luxury tent: 38 m² for up to 6 people, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom (summer only)
  • Treehouse: 22 m² for up to 3 people, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom
  • Glamping Chalet Comfort: 43 m² for up to 5 people, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom
  • Glamping Chalet Family: 60 m² for up to 6 people, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom

In addition to comfortable tents, treehouses and glamping chalets, at Glamping Village Kötschach you will also find grilled areas, encounter zones, natural playgrounds with water features, as well as yoga decks for reenergizing asanas or relaxation exercises. The ALPS Team greets you in a reception building with a small shop and is always available to provide you with excursion tips for the Carinthian Nassfeld-Pressegger See holiday region. Whether you would like to take a hike along sections of the Karnischer Höhenweg, visit a gorge or conquer a fixed-cable climb, ride the mountain lift up to the Nassfeld with its great opportunities for children, or “take the plunge” into cool, wet water. You can count on experiencing many hours of sunshine on the piste and virtually boundless skiing enjoyment if you decide to spend your winter holidays in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region.

  • Nearest train stations: Hermagor (32 km), Oberdrauburg (ca. 15 km)
  • Nearest supermarkets: Spar (1 km), Billa (1 km), Lidl (850 m)
  • Nearest airport: Klagenfurt (118 km)

Holidays in Carinthia’s first Slow Food Travel Region

For you, do holidays also involve getting to know the land and its people as well as delicious local cuisine? The regional producers in this first Slow Food Travel Region offer you the unique opportunity to peek over their shoulders as they go about their work and even lend them a hand yourself. For example, you will see how organic sheep’s milk is produced, make all-natural ice cream, bake bread from a natural sourdough. You will see how rye and wheat are ground into flour at the water-powered mills in Maria Luggau, while also learning what makes white Gailtal corn so special. Or discover the art of “pasta crimping”. A visit to Herwig Ertl’s "Edelgreisslerei" in the center of Kötschach also promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Kötschach Mauthen is also famous far and wide for its Cheese Festival, held annually on the last weekend in September. Local and international exhibitors offered the widest imaginable variety of full-flavored cheeses to the public. Needless to say, this also includes Gailtaler Almkäse – with a protected designation of origin, this delicious cheese is produced at 13 mountain huts in Gailtal.

SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING

Glamping Village Kötschach lies right next to the valley station of the Vorhegg family ski area. This ski area, with its uncrowded pistes, double chairlift, tow and 2 practice lifts in Kötschach, is practically perfect for families and beginners. After a day on the piste and out in the snow, a visit to the Aquarena – likewise next to our Glamping Village – will provide all the relaxation you crave. If you are looking for even more variety on the pistes, you might decide to drive (free ski bus also available, takes about 25 minutes) to Nassfeld: 110 kilometers of family-friendly slopes, 30 lifts, a snowpark, speed hills and around 850 hours of sunshine in winter, make Nassfeld not only the sunniest, but also one of the most popular ski areas in Carinthia. Whenever you wish, take a break at one of the 25 huts and restaurants in the ski area. The Italian border runs right along the Nassfeld Pass. Which means, during your day of skiing in Carinthia, you can also enjoy a short detour into Italy.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING, WINTER HIKING, SKI TOURING

Awaiting you in Kötschach-Mauthen alone are almost 60 km of beautifully maintained cross-country ski trails with a full range of difficulty. These double-tracked trails have been awarded the Carinthian Trail Seal of Quality. If you really want to take a relaxed approach to your winter getaway, you might consider setting out on walks along eight marked winter hiking paths through the snowy countryside. Ski tourers also find just what they are looking for in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region – the Carnic and Gailtal Alps boast numerous rewarding summits! We have yet another tip for adventurers: In the Austrian Alpine Association recreation area, you will discover a 28 meters-high ice tower. In other words, a great opportunity to see if you have what it takes to become an intrepid ice climber.

SLEDDING AND ICE-SKATING

A 2 kilometers-long sled run drops from the Gailberghöhe down to Kötschach. Toboggans and sleds for use on the natural floodlit sled run can be borrowed at Gasthof Gailberghöhe. Other runs are located in pristine Lesachtal, for example at the Tuffbad, or the 7 km long run in Obertilliach. At the Austrian Alpine Association recreation area, ice skaters also have an opportunity to show off their skills.

Hiking paths, via ferratas and geotrails near Kötschach-Mauthen

The Carnic, Gailtal and Julian Alps offer countless enjoyable opportunities to experience the mountains. Some people decide to explore stages of the 150 km long Karnischer Höhenweg (KHW403), also known as the “Via della Pace”, fascinating hikers with its mixture of magical mountain panoramas, relics from the First World War and unique geological features. Others love to take on the challenges of via ferratas such as the “Däumling” on the Gartnerkofel or the “Senza Confini” on the Cellon. Popular destinations also include alpine tarns such as Wolayersee and Zollnersee, while the region’s mountain huts promise welcome refreshment opportunities – including delectable cheeses – in this border region between Austria and Italy. Approximately 500 million years (!) of Earth’s history are presented on 5 different geotrails. On Geotrail Laas, for example, visitors discover the only petrified forest and the biggest planet fossils in Austria. On the Zollnersee geotrail, for its part, with a little bit of luck you might come across fossilized shells from an ancient tropical ocean.

Nassfeld summer lifts/h3>

The “Millenium Express” will carry you up to the Nassfeld, where numerous adventures await you. Pendolino, Carinthia’s longest Alpine slide, the Aqua Trail, a rocky labyrinth and a zipline tour. Single trails, flow trails, lifts & the Bike Giro: Nassfeld also has lots of variety and pure enjoyment in store for bikers, too.

Cycling, mountain biking and E-biking in Gailtal

The 46 cycling and mountain biking routes through this Carinthian holiday region extend for a total distance of 950 km. Look forward to virtually limitless biking enjoyment – not least because some of the tours straddle the border between Austria and Italy. The single-track trails are also quite unique, following pathways once used by smugglers. The opportunities are many and varied, certain to appeal to Sunday cyclists, families and downhillers alike.

Water experiences

A leap into the cold, wet water works wonders, especially on hot summer days and after an extended hike. Admission to the Aquarena, which is right next to Glamping Village Kötschach, is included for our guests free of charge. The natural swimming lake in Mauthen at the foot of the "Valentin" – with its gravel shore and 1700 m² water area – is especially popular with families. Then there is the Pressegger See in Hermagor (ca. 35 km) which, with a water temperature of up to 28°C, is one of the warmest swimming lakes in Austria. And Weissensee (ca. 45 km), one of Carinthia’s true natural jewels. Adventure-loving visitors may wish to book a canyoneering, rafting or river tubing tour. And hikers are certain to enjoy dangling their feet in one of the region’s refreshing, crystal-clear mountain lakes.
