Raurisertal, the “secret jewel of Hohe Tauern National Park” in Salzburger Land, will become one gem richer in 2021: Right next to the valley station of the Rauriser Hochalmbahnen family ski area, the modern Carpe Solem Rauris apartment resort with 70 apartments is being created. Amongst the many amenities of your new holiday resort in Raurisertal are a 700 m² wellness area with infinity pool, saunas and Alpine roof garden.

At our in-house Intersport branch, you will be given expert assistance – whether you are looking for top-quality skis for your winter holidays in Rauris or perfect hiking boots for your mountaineering adventures. And the ski instructors of Ski School Adventure (in-house) will do their part to ensure you quickly get into the “swing” of things out on the pistes – also the “little dudes”: The children’s practice lift is actually located right next to the Carpe Solem Rauris holiday resort. Our restaurant guarantees all the culinary enjoyment you could possibly wish for: from breakfast and mid-day refreshments, to a full dinner accompanied by outstanding wines for the consummate conclusion to yet another memorable vacation day spent in Hohe Tauern National Park.

After an active day, unwind in your stylish holiday apartment

Our fully equipped apartments (35 bis 105 m²) accommodate from 2 to 10 people. Summer or winter, Carpe Solem Rauris serves as an ideal retreat in the Austrian mountains in which to recharge your batteries and unwind completely after an active day exploring the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region – without a care in the world. We even bring nature indoors for you: In the apartments and public areas of the new Alps Residence resort, we incorporate high-quality local materials such as natural rock and larch wood. From each of the apartments, you will be captivated by the views of nature and the mountains of the Goldberg Group: with the Hoher Sonnblick and Seidlwinkltal to the south, Rauris town center and our own local mountain, the Grubereck, to the north and east, and Hochalm Family Mountain to the west.

Wellness at Carpe Solem Rauris: relaxation with a view

The many amenities of our apartment resort in Raurisertal include a 700 m² wellness area that will exceed your every expectation: Immerse yourself in the infinity pool with magnificent views of the Goldberg Group, sweat in one of the panorama saunas or the steam bath, sense the soothing warmth of our infrared cabins, or enjoy the refreshing invigoration of our spa showers and ice grotto. The Alpine roof garden with – what else? – mountain views adds the finishing touches to your rejuvenating vacation in Salzburger Land. What could be more beautiful than, after countless memorable moments in the mountains, on the pistes or at a hut, treating yourself to this self-indulgent form of relaxation and dreaming about the next day you are about to spend at Carpe Solem Rauris?

Holidays in the “secret jewel” of Hohe Tauern National Park

The new Carpe Solem Rauris resort lies right next to the valley station for the Rauriser Hochalmbahnen family ski area and just 5 minutes’ walk from the center of Rauris. The 30 km-long Raurisertal, with its 3000 permanent residents, is the largest National Park community by area in Salzburger Land. Awaiting you here is a holiday far removed from the tourism meccas, surrounded by intact nature and the Austrian mountains - an absolute jewel of the National Park, also aptly nicknamed the “Golden Valley of the Alps”. For centuries, Raurisertal was famous as a center of gold mining. In fact, in its heyday roughly 10% of world gold production originated in this area. To this day, visitors are able to discover fascinating traces of those bygone days: exploring themed paths in Kolm Saigurn, at the Rauris Valley Museum, at 3 different gold-panning sites and even simply taking a stroll through the center of Rauris itself. There, you will pass by the former residences of wealthy mine owners, such as the Voglmeierhaus dating back to the 16th century, today’s village hall (a village map showing historic landmarks is available at the reception desk!).

The people of Rauris are proud of how genuinely authentic they have managed to stay – nurturing their centuries-old traditions. Which gives you a marvelous opportunity to experience the authenticity and pristine nature for yourself: including parades of the Schnabelperchten and Perchten in January, and of the Rauriser Toifin in December, the legendary “Stallion Drive” and the “Glockner Pilgrimage” in June, Harvest Festival in September, along with numerous festivals, big and small, throughout the year…

At Carpe Solem Rauris, even your car can take a bit of a holiday:  In winter, the 32 km of beautifully groomed pistes operated by Rauriser Hochalmbahnen are practically right there outside your front door: a family ski area sure to excite families with children as well as beginners and returning skiers. A ski-touring route begins right next to Carpe Solem Rauris and is ideal for anyone wanting to enjoy a first taste of this compelling winter sport. In addition, a shuttle for cross-country skiers runs all the way to Alpengasthof Bodenhaus, where you will be greeted by a tracked alpine XC trail.

In summer, you will also be able to step out of your apartment at Carpe Solem Rauris and embark on your first hikes, walks and biking tours. The National Park Valley Taxi will bring you to the Seidlwinkltal, a valley once traveled by pilgrims and merchants – better known today for its traditional mountain huts, hearty snacks, as well as Alpengasthof Weixen, with its fish specialties and fishing ponds. The public bus will also bring you to the entrance of Krumltal, the “Valley of Vultures”, and to Kolm Saigurn valley head with the Hoher Sonnblick, the Rauris Virgin Forest and the Bodenhaus gold-panning site. The Rauriser Hochalmbahnen lifts operate from mid-May until October (also on a daily basis during low season).

Nearest railway station: Taxenbach (13 km)
Nearest bus stop: at the Rauriser Bergbahnen
Nearest airport: Salzburg W. A. Mozart (90 km)
Nearest grocery store: Billa (650 m), Spar (1.5 km)
Ski pistes: right outside your front door
Hikes: possible from your apartment, hiking taxi, public transportation

Get more out of your holiday thanks to the included National Park Sommercard

With the National Park Sommercard, which is included free of charge, you are able to visit one of the area attractions inside the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region for free every day: The opportunities include Grossglockner High-Alpine Road, numerous summer lifts (such as Weisssee Gletscherwelt, Wildkogel Arena and Rauriser Hochalmbahnen), outdoor swimming facilities (such as Piesendorf Hinkelsteinbad, the swimming lake in Niedernsill and the Sonnblickbad in Rauris) and museums (e.g. National Park Worlds) as well as the imposing Krimml Waterfalls. Furthermore, the guest card allows you to ride public transportation for free as well!

Enjoy the full flavor of your holiday in the “Golden Valley of the Alps”!

Restaurant at Carpe Solem Rauris. At Carpe Solem Rauris’s own restaurant, you can treat yourself to breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or if you prefer, simply stay within your own 4 walls and cook for yourself - in the fully equipped kitchen of your apartment, you will find all the cooking appliances and utensils you need. Further information about our restaurant will be published shortly. Though one thing is clear even now: There will definitely be no shortage of regional specialties, fine wines and friendly hospitality!

Farm-direct products in Rauris. Whether for a cozy dinner in your apartment at Carpe Solem or as a delicious souvenir: The homemade delicacies produced by our local farmers are not to be missed! Your mouth will begin watering at the very thought of fresh farmhouse bread from Kathrin’s shop in Wörth, potted cheese from the Aubauer farm, full flavored bacon and cheese from the Heustadlhof as well as the many other farm-direct retail outlets in the area. A list of farms in Raurisertal selling their products directly to consumers – along with valuable culinary tips – is available at our reception desk.

Bread baking with Roswitha Huber. Roswitha Huber has made quite a name for herself in Raurisertal, both with her cooking classes and as the author of various books about bread baking. At the Kalchkendlalm in the Wörth section of Rauris, she offers bread-baking classes, explains how to make sourdough, and recounts her “bread journeys” that have taken her around the world. She bakes her own bread in a wood-fired oven right outside the rustic hut – the taste is simply amazing! Mmmmh….

Winter in the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region

Ski Holidays in Salzburger Land

The top winter sports in the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region are skiing and snowboarding. During your winter holiday, you can choose between 9 TOP ski areas. The Kitzsteinhorn and Schmittenhöhe ski areas are just a few minutes on the free ski bus or by car from your apartment at Tauern Suites Mitterwirt in Piesendorf. The Ski Alpin Card, which is available at the reception, includes the ski resorts of the Kitzsteinhorn, Schmittenhöhe and Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn.

Carpe Solem Rauris lies right next to the valley station of the Rauriser Hochalmbahnen Family Ski Area with 32 kilometers of beautifully groomed pistes, a children’s practice area right outside the front door, along with a ski school and rental center at the resort.

Other ski resorts in the region include Weisssee Gletscherwelt family ski area in Uttendorf as well as Wildkogel Arena in Bramberg Neukirchen.

Snowshoeing, ski touring and winter hiking

Away from the pistes, too, you have ample opportunities to experience the most beautiful side of winter: Whether gliding along the tracked cross-country trails of the Bodenhaus-Loipe in Rauris or between Piesendorf and Zell am See-Kaprun, trudging along the marked winter hiking paths or with snowshoes on your feet through the fresh snow, taking a romantic sleigh ride or enjoying a high-spirited sledding expedition with your family amid the nature of the National Park – the range of winter sports is enormous. Our reception team will be happy to help you plan each day of your winter holiday. And you can count on them having a few insider tips of their own to share with you!
More and more winter sports fans are looking for peace & quiet and genuine nature experiences away from the popular pistes – which is precisely what you will find during a ski tour. Our region gives beginners a chance to enjoy a first taste of this increasingly popular sport on select ski-touring routes. One example is Ski Touring Center Raurisertal, where one route even begins right next to Carpe Solem Rauris.  For your mountain experiences away from the pistes, we strongly recommend the services of a mountain guide (the reception will be happy to provide you with contact details).
For experienced ski tourers, Raurisertal with its Kolm Saigurn valley head is virtually a must: In this “Golden Valley of the Alps”, the options range from a laid-back tour up the Kolmkarspitz to sweat-inducing climbs to the summits of the Hoher Sonnblick (3106 m) or Hocharn (3254 m). Tours are generally possible until May / June.

Something truly special: National Park Excursions

We have one more tip for your winter holiday with us: From December until the end of March, a National Park Ranger will lead you on snowshoes to wonderful places such as the Rauris Virgin Forest or allow you to participate in wildlife feedings in Habachtal. These tours are free to our guests. Take a look at the current Ranger Program!

And now just imagine: After such a day spent in the fresh mountain air and the snow, returning to your “holiday home”, stretching out on the sofa of your apartment and getting ready for a “round” of Netflix. Or indulging yourself at the wellness area with infinity pool at Carpe Solem Rauris or in the organic sauna at Tauern Suites Mitterwirt…

Our tipps

My favorite places

My Favorite Places

Verena Junger

What do I like most about the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region? Not only does it boast some of the top excursion destinations in Salzburger Land, it also gives you room to breathe, to escape and take things at a slower pace. For example, as you nibble on a platter of hearty snacks at a mountain hut. As you salute the sun on a remote mountaintop. Or as you refresh your feet in a babbling stream. For me, it is a successful combination of nature and (tourism) infrastructure. Since 2018 – and with the opening of Tauern Suites Mitterwirt - I have been a part of the Alps Residence team. Nothing pleases me more than when our guests are as excited about my home region as I am. I wish you lots of fun exploring the National Park!

Grossglockner High-Alpine Road

Grossglockner High-Alpine Road

This 48 km-long scenic road is one of Austria’s most popular excursion destinations. And rightly so: From the toll station in Ferleiten, this high-mountain road – opened in 1935 – meanders its way through 36 switchbacks, flanked by imposing mountains, all the way to the pilgrimage town of Heiligenblut in Carinthia as well as up to the Kaiser Franz Josefs Höhe: where Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner (elev. 3798 m), the Johannisberg and Pasterze glacier appear almost close enough to touch. You should definitely schedule an entire day for this excursion: Along the Grossglockner High-Alpine Road, there are countless opportunities to take snapshots and stretch your legs. 11 info points also provide you with fascinating insights into construction of this scenic road as well as the flora and fauna of Hohe Tauern National Park. And keep your eyes peeled - there’s always a chance you’ll see a marmot crossing the road in front of you or an ibex perched on the mountainside basking in the sunshine!

Kolm Saigurn

Kolm Saigurn

Kolm Saigurn in Raurisertal is one of the most beautiful valley heads in Hohe Tauern National Park. In summer, it attracts hikers and mountaineers. The most popular destinations are – also suitable for families – Rauris Virgin Forest, the Durchgangalmen as well as the Waterfall Path. And for avid alpinists, the Hocharn (3254 m) as well as the Hoher Sonnblick (3106 m), which is also the site of Europe’s highest permanently staffed weather station. Most mountain tours begin at the Lenzanger car park, reachable by means of a 5 km-long toll road (National Park Sommercard partner, with a bus running to the valley head). Incidentally, not far from the toll station you can also put your treasure-hunting skills to the test: at the Bodenhaus gold-panning site, with a little bit of luck you might even pluck slivers of gold from the stream! At the Rauris valley head itself, mountain huts, the Ammererhof and the Naturfreundehaus (tip: children’s playground and Kneipp spa) give you the opportunity to enjoy a refreshment break and take in the magical scenery: In Kolm Saigurn, you will encounter one 3000 m peak and glacier after another, while cows and horses graze on lush alpine meadows and waterfalls rumble in the background.

Birds of Prey

Valley of Vultures

In Raurisertal, rare bearded vultures have been circling overhead in Krumltal since 1986. With a little bit of luck, they can be observed along with golden eagles, griffon vultures, marmots and ibex. To improve your chances, we suggest joining a National Park Excursion led by a National Park Ranger (July until September, free with the National Park Sommercard) Krumltal is a side valley of Raurisertal, an easy hike along a marked theme path (forestry road) to the Bräualm taking roughly 1 ½ hours. Insider tip: Pay a visit to the Lechnerhäusl, a small alpine inn at the entrance to the valley not far from the car park (their desserts are heavenly!). If you would like to learn more about birds of prey in Hohe Tauern National Park, I recommend the “Kings of the Air” National Park Exhibition in Rauris (in the small community known as Wörth), or attend the Bird of Prey Show at the Rauriser Hochalm, where Peter will be happy to share his vast knowledge about these creatures with you.

Krimml Waterfalls

Krimml Waterfalls

Krimml Waterfalls are an imposing excursion destination for the whole family (also a partner of the National Park Sommercard): Via the 4 km-long Waterfall Path with lookout points along the way, you will come right up to the thunderous torrents of Austria’s biggest waterfalls – and don’t be surprised if you get a little bit wet! Dropping a total of 380 vertical meters, Krimml Waterfalls are an amazing natural spectacle and actually the fifth-highest falls in the world. The lowest falls can be reached in approximately 5 minutes from the ticket hut at the entrance (also handicapped-accessible), after which the Waterfall Path gets steeper and leads through cool forest. My tip: Use the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn train to travel from Zell am See or Piesendorf to Krimml – you can ride it for free with the included National Park Sommercard.

National Park Worlds

National Park Worlds

A fascinating 1800 m² exhibition for big and small in Mittersill, introducing you (also playfully) to Hohe Tauern National Park, its inhabitants and unique features. One highlight of this exhibition is a 360° panoramic world. In Hohe Tauern National Park, the biggest national park in Austria, you will find numerous self-guided themed paths (including Rauris Virgin Forest, “Kings of the Air” in Rauris, the Emerald Path in Hollersbach and the Glacier Paths in Uttendorf) as well as exhibitions (incl. the National Park Gallery at Gipfelwelt 3000 on the Kitzsteinhorn). From July until mid-September, you also have the possibility of participating in one of the popular National Park Excursions, with trained National Park Rangers introducing you to some true natural jewels. These guided – and highly recommended! – tours are (just like the National Park Museum) free with the National Park Sommercard. Mittersill can also be reached on the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn – free with the National Park Sommercard. Incidentally, the “Kiosk + Lounge” at the train station serves what is probably the best coffee in this small shopping town along with cake made fresh every day.

Weisssee

Weisssee Glacier World

By gondola (National Park Sommercard partner), it takes roughly 20 minutes to ride from the valley station at the Enzingerboden up to Berghotel Rudolfshütte at 2315 m. When you get there, the first thing to do is enjoy the view. Before you lies the turquoise Weisssee, surrounded by mighty 3000 m peaks. One very popular mountain tour leads to the Kalser Törl (2525 m) and from there to the Medelzkopf (2760 m), past countless cairns that are also excellent photo motifs. For a truly memorable experience we suggest the fixed-cable climbs in the Weisssee area: the Kronprinz Rudolf via ferrata is ideal for beginners, while the “Kristallklettersteig” will definitely pose a challenge, even for experienced climbers. In winter, the Rudolfshütte is a popular starting point for rewarding ski tours to the top of the Stubacher Sonnblick, the Granatspitze or the Hocheiser. And don’t forget: The small-though-delightful ski area in Uttendorf in Salzburger Land is also ideal for families.

Reservoirs

High-Mountain Reservoirs

There are several reasons why the Kaprun High-Mountain Reservoirs in Kaprun are so impressive: the location of the turquoise reservoirs surrounded by 3000 m summits, the fascinating history of how they were constructed as well as the astonishing technological achievement which they represent (guided tours of the dam are possible). Even the journey up to the reservoirs is an amazing experience in its own right: At the Kesselfall in Kaprun, you will board a bus that will take you (including some really dark tunnels) to Europe’s biggest open funicular. Then, you will continue by bus, past the first reservoir and the popular Fürthermoaralm, until you reach the fascinating Moserboden reservoir at 2040 m, reminiscent of a Norwegian fjord. If you wish to take advantage of this opportunity for a short hike, we suggest the Herb Path leading from the Moserboden reservoir in roughly 45 minutes down to the Fürthermoaralm, where you will be greeted by delicious blueberry dumplings dusted with cinnamon sugar. This popular excursion destination in Salzburger Land is open from May until October.

Summer

Your summer holiday
in Salzburger Land

Holidays amid intact nature

Mountains, glaciers, lakes and waterfalls. Mighty 3000ers and snow-covered summits such as the Kitzsteinhorn, Grossglockner and Grossvenediger, gentle green alpine pastures, the Pinzgauer Grasberge and the Hohe Tauern. Between them, one rushing mountain stream after another. Every bit as diverse as the nature of Hohe Tauern National Park which surrounds the Alps Residence apartment resorts Tauern Suites Mitterwirt Piesendorf and Carpe Solem Rauris, are the opportunities for your excursions and new experiences during your Austrian summer holidays.

Hiking and mountaineering

You (and even your kids) won’t waste a second before your hiking boots are laced up and your rucksack is packed: Countless marked hiking paths and alpine trails – 295 km of them in Raurisertal alone! – as well as self-guided themed paths lead you out to mountain huts where you are greeted by a full selection of well-earned snacks including crispy-fresh farmhouse bread and bacon. Through cool forests where you will be able to take one refreshing breath after another, high meadows where the cows and horses happily nibble away on fine alpine herbs. Past impressive waterfalls. Always with time for a break next to a mountain spring or babbling stream – your tired legs will thank you for it, appreciative of the refreshment you give them!

With a little bit of luck, you will encounter marmots, ibex and golden eagles circling overhead. And perhaps even catch sight of rare bearded vultures, which were reintroduced into Rauriser Krumltal back in 1986. Panning for gold in the “Golden Valley of the Alps” or scouring the “Valley of Emeralds”, Habachtal, you might even strike it rich. And as you know: When there’s something to discover, hikes are twice as exciting for the kids!

National Park excursions in summer

Two of the most popular National Park excursions lead you into Habachtal and the “Valley of Vultures”. A National Park Ranger will accompany you to some of the region’s most impressive natural jewels, explaining the flora and fauna, the history and unique highlights of Hohe Tauern National Park, which happens to be the biggest nature sanctuary in Austria. Set out on a “Journey to the Antarctic” inside the Weisssee glacial zone, or hearken to the call of the “Rauris Virgin Forest” … So much is waiting to be discovered!

These excursions are free to our guests. For further details, we invite you to take a look at the Hohe Tauern National Park Summer Program!

National Park Sommercard

With the National Park Sommercard, you can select one free service daily inside the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region, which includes TOP Salzburger Land excursion destinations such as Grossglockner High-Alpine Road, Krimml Waterfalls, the National Park Museum, summer lifts, swimming pools as well as the Hinkelsteinbad in Piesendorf and the Sonnblickbad in Raurisertal, panning for gold and much more. Public transportation between Krimml, Piesendorf, Zell am See and Raurisertal is likewise free of charge!

And best of all: During your summer holidays spent at Tauern Suites Mitterwirt and Carpe Solem Rauris, the National Park Sommercard is automatically included in the price! Valid from 1.5. through 31.10., for the duration of your stay – as soon as you move into your apartment at our holiday resort.

Overview of all Card Partners

Summer Lifts

With practically no physical exertion whatsoever, our popular summer lifts in the region will carry you up the mountain, where you are greeted by wonderful scenery and unforgettable mountain experiences. In summertime, the lifts offer you – families, in particular – exciting excursion destinations and countless memorable moments: the Rauriser Hochalmbahnen with a gold-panning site and bird-of-prey station, the Wildkogel Arena with its Slide Path (10 different slides ranging in length from 22 to 53 m!), the Schmittenhöhe including “Schmidolin’s Baptism of Fire”, “Ghost Mountain” in St. Johann Alpendorf, and Kitzsteinhorn Glacier with the ICE ARENA and Gipfelwelt 3000, boasting Salzburg’s highest viewing platform, aptly named the “Top of Salzburg”.

Tip: included with the National Park Sommercard: Rauriser Hochalmbahnen, Weisssee Glacier World, Wildkogel Arena, Grossarl Panorama Lifts…

Biking and adventure during your summer holidays

Marked mountain bike trails, leisurely E-bike and bicycle tours as well as challenging biking adventures such as the 3 MTB trails on the Kitzsteinhorn which, spanning a total of 12 km and 1500 vertical meters, are some of the most challenging in all of Salzburger Land – there is no doubt that 2-wheeling is a marvelous way to spend your holiday in Salzburger Land! Also possible: a stage or two of the 270 km-long Tauernradweg, which leads from Krimml all the way to Passau – past Piesendorf and Taxenbach at the entrance to Raurisertal.

If you would prefer to enjoy a bird’s eye view of our holiday region, we suggest booking a tandem paragliding flight with “Flieg mit Tom” or a helicopter tour with “SennAir”. You can also explore the National Park by water, on a guided rafting or canyoneering tour, for example…

The Wonders of Water

The abundance of water inside Hohe Tauern National Park is absolutely amazing. Whether you gaze in awe at Krimml Waterfalls, refresh your hiking-weary feet in an icy-cold stream, try your hand at stand-up paddling on Zeller See, or simply take a big gulp of spring water straight from the source – the immense power of water is tangible everywhere. Incidentally: Whenever you turn on the faucet in your apartment, you will always be able to enjoy highest-quality drinking water!

Other excursion tips (also suitable for families): The Rauriser UrQuell in upper Raurisertal is an astonishing place of power, while the Waterfall Path in Kolm Saigurn at the foot of the Hoher Sonnblick leads across a suspension footbridge and past 5 imposing waterfalls. The Kitzlochklamm in Taxenbach and Sigmund Thun Klamm with its own lake in Kaprun are 2 gorges that captivate countless visitors in summer.
